Severe Storms Knock Out Power To Thousands On Long Island

A line of severe thunderstorms that barreled through Long Island has left over 3,000 without electricity at times in the last 12 or so hours.

The outages resulted from a storm system that arrived in the area on Thursday night, July 13, and continued into Friday morning, July 14, bringing downpours and gusty winds along with it. 

As of Friday around 11:30 a.m., PSEG Long Island was reporting a total of 1,006 customers without electricity. This included: 

  • 964 customers without power in Suffolk;
  • 42 customers without power in Nassau.

More storms may arrive in the area on Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service.
